A new Ryan Murphy show is always a big deal, since he’s pretty much a guaranteed hit-maker these days, but his upcoming FX series Pose is also a big deal because it’s the first show to ever feature five transgender actors as series regulars (specifically MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Hailie Shar, Angelia Ross, and Dominique Jackson). It will also feature Kate Mara, James Van Der Beek, and Evan Peters—because you can’t have a Ryan Murphy show without him—and it will be a “dance musical” following the ball culture of ‘80s New York.
This trailer sets all of that up reasonably well, with some flashy balls, dramatic conversations about people being true to who they are, and whole lot of dancing. Earlier descriptions of the show frequently mentioned that the show would be set alongside “the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe,” but that asshole doesn’t factor into this clip at all.
Pose will premiere on FX on June 3.
