Now that her standard-issue space vest and dusty dungarees have been returned to the Lucasflm costume department, Felicity Jones is donning a tutu. The Hollywood Reporter has details on what it describes as a “hot pitch” starring Jones, a feature-length adaptation of Swan Lake. Unlike Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, the article clarifies, this particular film will actually follow the plot of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet, about a princess who is turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer. Jones is attached to star as Odette, the aforementioned enchanted aristocrat.
Several studios are currently competing to produce the film, which also has Italian director Luca Guadagnino—who’s currently in post-production on another ballet-adjacent project, a remake of Dario Argento’s Italian horror classic Suspiria—on board. Completing the trifecta is writer Kristina Lauren Anderson, who’s been in demand ever since her script Catherine The Great, a biopic of the Russian empress, topped the Black List in 2014. And no, there won’t be any actual ballet, but the pitch describes the film as a “tentpole,” i.e. “expensive,” production.
