A day after Late Night With Jimmy Fallon inadvertently took the leap into the political arena thanks to The Roots' controversial song choice for guest Michele Bachmann, congresswoman from Minnesota and polarizing GOP presidential candidate, Fallon took to the Tweetsphere to apologize to Bachmann in a tweet sent out yesterday evening: “I'm honored that [Bachmann] was on our show yesterday and I'm so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back.” As for Roots drummer Questlove, who Fallon already grounded for his part in the tomfoolery, he told Speakeasy, “The performance was a tongue-in-cheek and spur of the moment decision. The show was not aware of it and I feel bad if her feelings were hurt. That was not my intention.” Which roughly translates to, “We really didn't think anyone would figure out the name of an obscure song from an obscure 1985 EP by the band Fishbone.” For her part, Bachmann, already the source of much mockery from the entertainment industry, issued a comment on the incident, saying, “This is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite. This wouldn't be tolerated if this was Michelle Obama. It shouldn't be tolerated if it's a conservative woman either.”
