Having just touched on the DC Extended Universe—or, rather, a response to its recent output—it’s time for the the latest update from the Marvel movie industrial complex. Hey, it’s only fair/necessary, since superhero movies are all anybody talks about these days. (And those Edible Arrangements aren’t going to send themselves to our offices.)

Last month, rumors of a forthcoming Squirrel Girl movie swirled after Pitch Perfect singing stalwart Anna Kendrick aca-cast (a-cast?) herself as Doreen Greene. Kendrick admitted she has little familiarity with the source material, but she’s pretty sure she has the requisite pertness to play the “unbeatable” superhero. And the internet isn’t exactly opposed to the idea, though some corners of it call for Mae Whitman or Alison Brie to take on the mantle. Kendrick isn’t the only enterprising actress to throw her hat in the ring—Shannon Purser, who plays Barb on Stranger Things, similarly wondered out loud about how to land the part.

But Kendrick’s bid just got a bit of a boost from someone familiar with comic-book adaptations. Edgar Wright, who both directed Kendrick in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and dated her for four years, has thrown in his lot with the Trolls star. The Baby Driver director not only cast his vote for Kendrick as Squirrel Girl, but he also pitched an idea for the film.

So basically, Wright’s describing a Scott Pilgrim sequel—well, we guess Marvel’s thrown together movies with less. And Kendrick seems to be on board, so now it’s just a “simple” matter of rounding up Chris Evans, Michael Cera, Brie Larson, and Brandon Routh. (We’re pretty sure Thomas Jane’s available.)
