With Gerard Butler declaring, “See you in the next life!” to starring in another movie about sports, the remake of Point Break has turned to Edgar Ramirez as its replacement Patrick Swayze replacement, bringing him in to take on the role of Bodhi, surfer sensei to the sexually confused FBI agent who’s pursuing him. Ramirez is best known for his Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated titular role in Carlos, Oliver Assayas’ epic about Carlos The Jackal—often called “the Bodhi of international terrorism” by people who don’t really read much. And he’s since had notable performances in movies like The Bourne Ultimatum and Zero Dark Thirty—a film that was helmed by original Point Break director Kathryn Bigelow, in one of those great cosmic confluences that one can only ponder while skydiving. Anyway, in a statement, the film’s producers said, “We consider Edgar one of the finest actors in the world today, “ adding that they couldn’t wait to waste that on a Point Break remake.
