Memes! We make them, we love them, we pass judgement on their relative dankness, we don’t really think very hard about how the people in them feel about them. Not that we should be too concerned about Denzel Washington, who, last we checked, is still a handsome, successful, and well-respected movie star. Still, the man has feelings, and he’s got some negative ones towards the meme that has been going around ever since he was caught looking like he was about to bum a smoke from someone at the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight last year. Behold, Uncle Denzel:

See, it’s funny because normally we don’t see two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington looking like someone’s deadbeat uncle. But Washington himself wants everyone to know that he grew that mustache for his role in The Magnificent Seven—a role he was well paid for, thanks. Asked about the meme by Global Grind at TIFF, a stone-faced Washington said, “they don’t know what I was doing. They don’t need to know,” adding that “those who can, do. Those who can’t, talk about those who can.” Presumably, he’s not talking about “those who can” use Meme Generator.
