Yup, it's true: David Cronenberg is bringing his scary story about a guy who turns into a bug–wait, I'm sorry, his "Kafkaesque meditation on man's uneasy relationship with technology"–to Paris' Opera Du Chatelet this summer and the Los Angeles Opera this fall. The filmmaker's 1986 horror classic The Fly will be translated into libretto by David Henry Hwang, with Placido Domingo conducting, Cronenberg directing, and Daniel Okulitch in the lead. We say it's about time–murderous digestive juices are always more dramatic when barfed by a sensuous bass-baritone.
