Illustration for article titled Cranberries singer and Smiths bassist form surprisingly upbeat supergroup

In what should be a recipe for some great European moping, Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan and Andy Rourke from The Smiths have formed two-thirds of a supergroup called D.A.R.K. that—going off of its first single—doesn’t sound very mopey at all. The band’s unexpectedly upbeat attitude presumably comes from the third member of its triumvirate, a songwriter/DJ from New York named Olé Koretsky, who is referred to as “little known” by the press release.

According to that same press release, though, the whole idea behind D.A.R.K. (short for Dolores O’Riordan, Andy Rourke, and Olé Kortesky) is that the three members each have “distinctive personalities” and bring their own thing to the group. However, they all share a “love of electronica and new wave” that heavily influenced their debut album, Science Agrees. That album will be available on May 27, and you can preorder it in various different formats at this link.

The aforementioned first single, “Curvy,” is below.
