Ahab had the white whale. Javert had Jean Valjean. And Gabriel Gundacker, an avid Viner and YouTube content creator, has Oscar-winning actor and national treasure Richard Dreyfuss as his ultimate, maddeningly elusive goal. Back in March of this year, Gundacker declared through song his strong desire to meet Mr. Dreyfuss. And just as Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s MC Pee Pants progressed from merely wanting candy to actually needing candy, Gundacker has now produced a soulful sequel to his original video entitled “I Need To Meet Richard Dreyfuss.” To watch the new YouTube clip is to see how much more acute Gundacker’s Dreyfuss fixation has become in the past six months. The video even starts with the singer forlornly wild-posting “Have You Seen This Man?” posters with pictures of the 67-year-old American Graffiti legend. In the song, Gundacker sadly informs us that his concentrated social media campaign has thus far been fruitless. Not a word has he received from the Dreyfuss camp. The song, the video, the tweets? All have been ignored by the star of The Goodbye Girl.

When confronted with such deafening silence, Gundacker has kept his expectations relatively modest. “I don’t wanna go on a date, Richard,” he sings. “I just wanna meet you face to face to face, Richard. And I know you’ve got some free time on your plate, Richard, ’cause your friend’s directing Raiders sequels, not Close Encounters prequels.” Whether or not this follow-up will get the job done, diehard “Dreyfuss heads” will certainly appreciate the depth and breadth of Gundacker’s fandom. “I Need To Meet Richard Dreyfuss” contains references to such Dreyfuss deep cuts as Inserts, Lost In Yonkers, and Always. Of course, there’s a little nod to Jaws in the video, in the form of a votive candle and throw pillow bearing the likeness of the famed shark. As always, Gundacker ends his musical message with a spoken word plea beseeching anyone with knowledge of Richard Dreyfuss’ “exact whereabouts” to get in touch with him as soon as possible.
