In anticipation of their appearance at several summer festivals, Coldplay continues to fight the feelings revolution with its new single, “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall,” a name seemingly chosen by an extremely sarcastic committee tasked with producing the ultimate Coldplay song title. The Brian Eno-produced track follows a formula that’s become de rigueur—vaguely uplifting sentiments about overcoming life’s little adversities with the spirit of self-reliance, a never-ending anthemic build that should sound equally huge in an auditorium or iPod commercial, accusations that it totally rips off another song (although it’s probably just the fact that both borrow from this Peter Allen tune)—and delivers exactly what fans have come to expect from the band, cleanly and efficiently. Prepare to hear it everywhere.
