Coldplay is working on its “final” album, says it’s like Harry Potter

Coldplay’s reign as the kings of moody pop may finally be coming to an end. While chatting with BBC Radio 1 about the success of Ghost Stories, frontman Chris Martin revealed the band is already at work on its seventh studio album, A Head Full Of Dreams, a record that will likely be the group’s last.

“It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that,” Martin explained, presumably hinting that the first third of the album will feature songs exclusively about camping, or perhaps that Guy Berryman will reveal he’s been a horcrux all along.

Martin further clarified, “Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.” That smartly leaves the door open should Coldplay one day decide to release the musical equivalent of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. But for now, Martin adds, “I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing. Otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.” Martin also revealed the band plans to tour with the album, something it did not do with the more personal Ghost Stories. Hopefully the boys will do so in their finest wizard attire.
