The trailer for the latest cinematic incarnation of Stieg Larssonā€™s Millennium series, The Girl In The Spiderā€™s Web, hit the internet today, with Claire Foy stepping into the role of master hacker/angel of vengeance Lisbeth Salander, played by Noomi Rapace in the 2009 Swedish original and Rooney Mara in David Fincherā€™s 2011 American remake. This particular film is based on the fourth book in the series written by David Lagercrantz, who took over after Larssonā€™s original Millennium trilogy became wildly, posthumously popular in Sweden and abroad.

The trailer leans heavily into the ā€œangel of vengeanceā€ angle, opening with the setup to what, given that the film is directed by Donā€™t Breatheā€™s Fede Alvarez, we can only assume is a brutally inventive scene of breathtaking carnage. Cut to intense action montage and a heavy-handed score overlaid with voiceover of a woman saying, ā€œAre you not Lisbeth Salander, righter of wrongs? The girl who hurts men who hurt women?ā€ and you can practically hear the ā€œ...in the age of #MeTooā€ editorials beginning to type themselves.
