Last year, we reported that Lifetime would be expanding its fascination with abusive relationships to the one between the people of Flint, Michigan and their state government, which told a series of lies to the town’s residents after their drinking water was found to be dangerously full of contaminants. Now, the network has announced that Cher has been tapped to star in Flint, where she’ll play a mom living in the God-and-GM-forsaken town.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer and actress has spent a lot of time in Flint over the last year, donating more than 10,000 bottles of water and trying to keep awareness of the crisis up amidst the dozens of other awful things last year. Cher is also serving as an executive producer on the project, which is based on “The Toxic Tap,” a Time magazine cover story from last year.
