Having already pledged to become more sensitive toward the homosexual community in the most tokenish way possible, CBS rounded out its increasingly uncomfortable presentation at the Television Critics Association by alienating its core audience: This morning the network announced that the upcoming Survivor: Nicaragua would divide castaways into teams of “young vs. old”—“young” people being those “30 years of age and younger,” and “old” people being “individuals over the age of 40.” (Anyone between the ages of 30 and 40 apparently exists in a demographically invisible limbo.) As Deadline points out, 40-year-old viewers actually represent the younger end of the spectrum of the CBS audience, so calling them “old” could be a really great way to piss them off. (Luckily for CBS, they’re just a bunch of old people, so who gives a fuck?)
