Perhaps explaining at last why he looks so sad, Keanu Reeves tells MTV that development on the long-rumored Bill & Ted 3 has entered a limbo—a purgatory from which there is no escape, a darkness that cannot be Melvined. Speaking with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz—who has been similarly condemned to a lifetime of petitioning Reeves with prayers for a Bill & Ted sequel, prayers for which there are no answers—Reeves sort-of-joked about the delay, “There's lots of subterfuge and conspiracy theories… It’s pretty dark out there.” Gazing into the abyss as though it were the grimmest of sandwiches, Reeves confirmed that, yes, they have a script and a will to live, but lamented, “There's darkness out there that's keeping it from happening…. It's that part of the story where it's looking grim. It's the dark period.”


While Reeves wouldn’t (or couldn’t?!) elaborate, it's perhaps worth noting that our announcement last month that Rambo was getting a TV series seemed to give Alex Winter pause on reviving his own aging franchise, and so it’s possible that we ourselves are an unwitting part of the vast conspiracy, along with Halliburton. Or perhaps Bill & Ted confronting the darkness is simply part of accepting the decay that is inherent in life. As a philosopher once put it, “Dust. Wind. Dude.
