Beach House reacts to being ripped off by Volkswagen ad with appropriately relaxed pleasantness

As recently pointed out by Diffuser.fm (and picked up by Pitchfork), there's a new British commercial for the Volkswagen Polo with a soundtrack that bears an uncanny resemblance to Beach House's "Take Care," the Teen Dream closer that perfectly captures the ad's sentiments about a dad always being there for his daughter, provided you don't actually listen to the words. In actuality, the song that is absolutely Beach House's "Take Care" but is also officially not hails from a group called Sniffy Dog who—when they're not busy replying, "Oh… nothing" to people who ask them to repeat their band name—specialize in crafting sound-alikes of songs for ad agencies looking for that certain, unlicensed feeling.

Beach House has since weighed in on the matter via their Facebook page, acknowledging that the ad agency in question even "actively tried to license 'Take Care' from us for weeks, to which we politely declined," at which point the agency went the calculated, Sniffy Dog, let's-just-rip-them-off-because-fortunately-the-Internet-doesn't-really-latch-onto-these-sorts-of-things route. But as befitting a band as pleasantly dreamy and relaxed as Beach House, they haven't put up much of a fight yet, calming fans with "people's comments/anger should not be directed towards VW or us. It was the ad agency that made these moves," and saying they'll release a more formal statement "weeks from now when we don't have more interesting things to do/talk about." Basically the ad agency should be grateful they didn't choose to steal from a band with even a smidgen more energy.
