Career options seem to be distinctly limited in the grim yet beautiful post-apocalyptic world of George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. There are war boys, breeding stock, and blood bags/human hood ornaments, but none of these appear to offer much opportunity for creative expression, let alone chance for advancement. Meanwhile, reports of a robust job market in the so-called “Green Place” seem to have been overly optimistic. It may be that the fellow with the most plum assignment in the entire movie is the Coma-Doof Warrior, the blind guitarist who inspires Immortan Joe’s entire militia with his fire-spewing, fretboard-bending heroics aboard the fantastically tricked-out Doof Wagon. Brought to horrifically awesome life by Australian musician iOTA, who has played such iconic theatrical roles as Dr. Frank-N-Furter and Hedwig Robinson, the character has obviously captured the imaginations of moviegoers this summer. As evidence, a website called Soundslice now presents intricately-detailed sheet music for the Coma-Doof Warrior’s epic riffage, complete with instructions about when to activate the flamethrower on the neck of the guitar. For any newbies out there, the very fires of hell come in during the third measure. The tempo should be a relatively brisk 130 BPM. And remember to keep your eyes closed at all times for the sake of authenticity.
