Newspaper columnist and political satirist Art Buchwald, whose pointed barbs at politicians made him the Jon Stewart of his day, died of kidney failure Wednesday. Buchwald was told last February that he had only weeks to live, and yet he survived for almost another year despite refusing dialysis and losing a leg. He also continued to write newspaper columns and wrote a book, Too Soon To Say Goodbye, that was published in fall. A winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1982, Buchwald's syndicated column ran in nearly 500 newspapers at its peak.
