Anna Paquin stars in Bellevue (Photo: WGN America)

There’s something familiar about the trailer for Bellevue, a new drama from Anna Paquin, Adrienne Mitchell, and Jane Maggs. It’s not just that the 8-episode series stars Paquin, the Oscar-winning actress who also held down True Blood for seven seasons. There’s also a small-town setting (with a French name, no less), similar to that of HBO’s supernatural drama. And from the looks of this exclusive preview, Paquin’s character will have to mine past trauma to help her save a life in the present:

Paquin stars as Annie Ryder, a cop who’s trying to find a missing high-school hockey star. The suspects include some kind of gay conversion group, as well as a no-longer-dormant killer. Combining elements of Top Of The Lake with the recent Fox limited series, Shots Fired, Bellevue is executive produced by Paquin, Mitchell, and Maggs. It also stars Fargo alum Shawn Doyle and Downton Abbey’s Allen Leech. WGN America’s nabbed the U.S. rights for the series, which will premiere in early 2018.
