According to Collider, Adam McKay is “close to signing on to direct [The Boys],” yet another drop in the wave of comic-book adaptations that Hollywood is apparently attempting to ride indefinitely. The comic series, written by Garth Ennis (Preacher, Hellblazer) and illustrated by Darick Robertson (Transmetropolitan), is notoriously graphic and violent and filled with a much darker sort of humor than evidence in McKay-directed films like Anchorman, Step Brothers. Perhaps this is an indication that McKay is heading for a more action-based track in the future, or perhaps it’s just a one-time deal. (McKay is, after all, a self-professed lover of comics.) Either way, this should be interesting. (No word yet on whether fan Simon Pegg, on whom Robertson and Ennis modeled one character, is up for a part.)
