The divorce drama between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard just took a very unfunny turn, as Variety reports that Heard applied for—and received—a restraining order against her soon-to-be-ex-husband on the basis of domestic violence in a Los Angeles court earlier today. Heard arrived in court with a visible black eye, and accused Depp of assaulting her.
She went on to say that he had physically attacked her many times before, and she and her lawyer submitted photos allegedly documenting said injuries that we won’t reprint here but you can Google easily enough if you’re interested. She also said she has video of one of the attacks. An LAPD spokesperson also confirmed to Variety that police had visited Depp and Heard’s residence on a domestic dispute call on May 21, although investigators found no evidence of an assault at that time.
As a result, Judge Carl Moor has approved Heard’s request for a temporary restraining order dictating that Depp cannot come within 100 yards of Heard, according to Deadline. (Conversely, TMZ claims that Depp has been out of town since Wednesday, and did not personally appear in court.) And, uh—um—nope. No jokes to be made about this one. None at all.
The next hearing in the case will be on June 17. If you or someone you know are currently experiencing domestic violence and live in the U.S., you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1−800−799−7233. Resources for Canada, the U.K., and Australia can be found at the links.
