As the guy who was selling it predicted, the “Holy Grail of comic books”—a CGC-rated 9.0 Action Comics #1—has sold for $3,207,852 on eBay. This marks a new world record for the most expensive comic book ever sold, blowing away the previous record of $2.1 million. The identity of the buyer is unknown; The Wrap identifies him or her as “s***p”—which is presumably not an acronym for “Saving Nicolas Cage’s Comics Purity.” The record-high sale raises hopes of a new comics bubble where we’ll all get rich on those foil-stamped Spider-Man back issues we’ve been keeping in our parents’ attics for the past 20 years or so. Just kidding; that dream died with Superman in 1992.
