Abigail Breslin to play non-freak in Freak Show adaptation

Abigail Breslin in Scream Queens

As reported by Deadline, Abigail Breslin has joined the cast of Freak Show, an adaptation of the novel by Disco Bloodbath author James St. James. The book is a bout “a boldly confident teenager who faces intolerance and persecution at his ultra-conservative high school,” so he decides to stand up for “all of the misunderstood freaks of the world by running for the title of homecoming queen.” Alex Lawther (who played young Alan Turing in The Imitation Game) will be the main kid, with Breslin playing the head cheerleader “who is incensed by the competition.” Bette Midler, AnnaSophia Robb, Ian Nelson, and Lorraine Toussaint will also appear in the adaptation, possibly as other “freaks” or popular kids (who are sometimes the real freaks, right? Take that, popular kids).

Freak Show will be the directorial debut of English actress and producer Trudie Styler (Filth, Moon, Snatch).
