Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff that will launch midseason on ABC, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey announced during the network’s upfront presentation this afternoon. The series, which doesn’t have a title yet, takes place in Seattle Grace’s home city and follows a group of firefighters. They will presumably save lives while dealing with their complicated romantic entanglements—just like the doctors on their parent show. “No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spin-off,” Dungey said in a statement. Shonda Rhimes is, naturally, executive producing along with Betsy Beers, but Stacy McKee of Grey’s is tasked with writing the script. As of yet, ABC has not announced whether any Grey’s characters will be featured.
