The Internet as a whole gets a lot of mileage out of Wes Anderson. Whether it’s video essays, Lego recreations, or any of a million supercuts, something about the singular style of the quirky director has continued to attract people that produce content, and most pertinently, ape his style for parody videos. Now, to add another log to the fire that is the Wes Anderson parody cottage industry, Patrick Willems has made “What if Wes Anderson directed X-Men?”

While absolutely no one was asking that question, the video tackles the subject with aplomb. Willems absolutely nails Anderson’s visual style, using plenty of centered shots, Futura font and even miniatures built by a real set designer. It leans a little heavily on bad VFX, which feels like a missed opportunity when you’re aping a director so known for using practical effects, but to be fair those are expensive. To Willems’ credit, he doesn’t even try to force his actors to do bad imitations of Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, or anyone else in Anderson’s stable of recurring players. Which, while admirable, does deprive the world of speculating about who would play their favorite mutant superheroes.
